Initial Assessment

Duration of appointment:  45 – 55 minutes
All new patients must undergo an initial assessment with their first treatment.
Along with taking information about your general health and a history of your foot problems, a detailed physical assessment of your feet (we always check both) will be carried out to diagnose the current issue.  A treatment plan will be discussed with you and you will undergo you first treatment.

Medical Pedicure

This is the foot treatment to choose if you’re looking for a thorough overhaul of your feet. The Medical Pedicure is an intensive, non-invasive treatment which ensures both the health of your feet. It combines all elements of our special Foot Health services with the safe removal of corns, calluses, and hard, dry skin.

We recommend a Medical Pedicure every 6-10 weeks for happy and healthy feet.

In contrast to a regular pedicure, our Medical Pedicure uses specialised tools that have been sterilised in between treatments to 134 degrees. The tools used in a salon pedicure will be sterilised in bright blue barbicide or a similar product. However, podiatrists and Foot Health Practitioners will use an autoclave sterilisation chamber to clean their blades and drill immediately after use for superior hygiene.

Also, because a medical pedicure is performed on dry feet there is no risk of infection arising from a shared footbath. Hygiene or sanitation standards cannot always be guaranteed in popular nail salons. With a higher turnover, standards tend to decrease and the likelihood of fungal infections, cross-contamination or ingrown nails (due to poor cutting) increases.

Diabetic Footcare

If you have diabetes, looking after your feet is particularly important. Yet it’s often one of the most overlooked aspects of diabetes management.

Diabetes affects your circulation and nervous system. The reduction of blood supply to your feet can cause damage to your nerve endings, something known as peripheral neuropathy.

Simply put, you may not be able to feel pain and hot or cold meaning that you may not notice if you have a minor cut, sore or wound. In addition, poor circulation makes it difficult for your body to heal, so a minor problem left unchecked could lead to serious complications including foot ulcers, foot infections, and even amputation.

You may also suffer from a loss of balance and coordination, and muscle weakness in the feet.

Having your feet regularly checked will alert you to any potential issues as well as giving personalised advice to maintain your foot health in between appointments.

Some recommendations are:

  • Ensure your feet are clean and free from infection.

  • Wear only well-fitting shoes. Ill-fitting shoes can result in blisters, ulcers, corns and calluses, and nail problems.

  • Avoid walking barefoot, especially when outside to reduce the risks of cuts and grazes.

  • Try to avoid sitting cross-legged as this can hinder circulation.

  • Cut and file your toenails on a regular basis. When cutting your nails, cut straight across.

  • Moisturise your skin, paying particular attention to your heels, as dry skin can lead to cracking and fissures.

  • Wear the right shoes. We can recommend the ideal footwear for diabetics.

  • Never attempt to treat corns or hard skin yourself. Always consult a podiatrist.

Verucca Treatment

Verrucae, also known as plantar warts, are caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV), a highly contagious virus that’s passed on by direct human contact. The virus thrives in moist, damp environments, such as changing room floors, swimming pools and communal showers. You can catch the virus simply by walking on the same floor as an infected person, which is why it’s so common amongst children although anybody can have a verruca.

While verrucae may disappear on their own (often taking use real years,) they can quickly become troublesome, spreading to other areas of your feet, growing larger, and often becoming painful.

Verrucae will clear up much more quickly if you seek help from a Foot Health. Professional. We recommend visiting us if your verruca is painful, has spread and multiplied, altered in appearance, or if it’s restricting you in your daily activities.

Toenail Reconstruction

Toenail reconstruction (aesthetic toenail correction) is an excellent solution if you are self-conscious about uncovering your feet. It is a straightforward process which can last up to 8 weeks before the veneer. Toenail reconstruction enhances damaged or discoloured toenails, improving the overall appearance of your feet using the latest generation of Toeflex Hybrid-gel. This fungal-resistant resin is built directly onto the treated damaged nail to create a natural-looking veneer.  Topical antifungal preparations may continue to be used with Toeflex reconstructed nails and unlike nail-bar style, traditional acrylic nails or gels, will not damage the natural toenail as it regrows.
